KA-BAR BK22 Campanion Impressions
The KA-BAR BK22 comes sharp right out of the box. It’s a bit on the heavy side but that’s what you want in a heavy duty survival knife. It’s going to be abused and the added weight will ensure it’s reliability during the toughest situations.
The handle is made from glass reinforced nylon called Grivory, similar in feel to hard plastic. It’s secured by 3 hex nuts for easy removal. The BK22 has a great balance so you won’t notice the weight or get overly fatigued during extended use.
The BK22 really shines when it comes to chopping. You wouldn’t expect a 5.25″ blade to perform as well as it does. Thanks to the weight, blade thickness and girth the BK22 is a chopping beast.
Another task every survival knife should perform is prying. This user on the Blade Forums shows it handles the abuse unfazed by creating a water boil container.
When it comes to the heavy duty work, such as chopping, prying and split batoning, the BK22 will get it done.
